A community in Ekiti State has been thrown into mourning following the gruesome murder of a pretty mother of three, identified as Olaitan Amire Adewumi.
The brutal killing took place in Ido-Ekiti, within the Ido/Osi Local Government Area, during the late hours of Saturday, June 13, 2026.
Investigations indicate that the homicide was a premeditated act, occurring just 24 hours after an initial attempt on the victim’s life.
Olaitan Amire Adewumi escapes arson
According to details provided by a relative of the deceased, Mr. Dare Akinola, the unknown assailants had originally targeted Adewumi’s residence on Friday night. The perpetrators attempted to set her apartment ablaze while she was inside.
The plot was narrowly foiled when a swift-thinking passerby noticed smoke and flames billowing from one of the windows.
The individual raised an alarm immediately, mobilising nearby residents who successfully put out the fire before it could consume the building or cause injury.
Fatal Saturday assault and attempt to destroy evidence
Despite surviving the arson attempt, Adewumi was targeted the following evening again.
“Unfortunately, on Saturday, she was not so lucky,” Akinola recounted. “The attackers returned and hacked her on the head, face, legs, and several other parts of her body, inflicting fatal injuries that led to her death.”
After the lethal assault, the killers attempted to destroy forensic evidence and cover up the homicide. They piled clothing and personal items on top of her lifeless body and positioned a container filled with petrol right next to her, indicating an intent to incinerate the corpse before they fled the scene.
Two suspects apprehended by police
The incident was quickly reported to the Ekiti State Police Command. Law enforcement operatives moved swiftly to lock down the area, leading to the arrest of two individuals suspected of involvement in the murder.
The suspects are currently being held at the state command and are undergoing intensive interrogation to uncover the motive behind the targeted killing and identify any other collaborators.
Adewumi is survived by her three children, leaving behind a devastated family demanding swift justice from local authorities.
