A primary school teacher, identified as Shina Adeoye, has been abducted by suspected armed bandits while travelling to work along the Obbo-Ile–Eruku axis in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday morning when the victim, who teaches at Cooperative Primary School, Eruku, was intercepted on the road by the attackers.

He was taken away to an unknown location, and his current whereabouts remain unconfirmed.

Residents of the area say the abduction has heightened fear among commuters who regularly use the route, which has been repeatedly flagged as vulnerable due to limited security presence. Many locals describe the corridor as increasingly unsafe for daily travel.

Community members further noted that armed groups appear to be exploiting gaps in surveillance along the highway, urging authorities to strengthen protection in the area and respond more decisively to rising incidents.

The latest abduction comes against the backdrop of earlier attacks in Eruku and surrounding communities.

In a previous incident in November 2025, suspected armed groups reportedly invaded the area, resulting in fatalities and injuries before security operatives responded.

The Nigeria Police Force had earlier confirmed such attacks and stated that joint operations involving security agencies and local vigilante groups were deployed to repel the assailants.

As of press time, efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the abducted teacher, while security agencies continue monitoring the area for possible leads.

It would be recalled that Eruku gained national recognition last year, November, when bandits struck at a Christ Apostolic Church in the town during a vigil service and killed three people and abducted many of the worshippers.

The church programme was being livestreamed at the time of the incident. The camera captured the bandits as they ransacked the church, carrying worshippers’ phones and other valuables.

The government later announced that the kidnapped worshippers had been released.
