A 20-year-old woman has shared her account of being dragged into a wooded area and raped in Wrexham, Wales, by a Nigerian citizen, Gift Oladele, who offered to walk her home after a night out.
In an account published by the Daily Mail on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, the survivor—who remains anonymous—recalled the traumatic assault that occurred on September 7, 2025.
The perpetrator, 24-year-old Oladele, was sentenced in April to 17 years in prison, alongside an extended eight-year licence period, after being convicted at Mold Crown Court.

Details of the assault and immediate aftermath
According to the victim’s account, Oladele approached her as she walked home, offering to accompany her under the pretence that he was heading in the same direction. When they reached an isolated spot, he grabbed her and forced her into nearby woods.
“He was a lot bigger than I was – I tried pushing him away, but he overpowered me,” she stated. “My brain just switched into survival mode… It was either I do what he says, and I get home to my mum, or he is going to kill me.”
Following the physical assault, Oladele made threatening remarks and claimed he would post photographs online if she went to the authorities. However, upon returning home at 3:30 AM, she alerted her parents, prompting her father to notify the police immediately.
Detectives arrested Oladele the following day at his cousin’s home in Wrexham, where they discovered a mobile phone containing searches related to sexual violence.
Prior criminal record and deportation legal battle
Court proceedings revealed that Oladele was already on bail for a separate rape allegation in Manchester from November 2024 at the time of the Wrexham attack. He had also served a prison sentence in 2022 for a sexually motivated offence.
Oladele, who was born in Italy and holds Nigerian citizenship, had previously avoided deportation from the United Kingdom by mounting a legal challenge under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, citing his right to private and family life.
An immigration tribunal ruled in his favour, finding deportation disproportionate, and subsequently rejected two Home Office appeals to overturn the decision.
Wrexham Chief Inspector Caroline Mullen-Hurst labelled Oladele a “dangerous predator” while commending the survivor’s bravery during the investigation and trial process.
