The Nigeria Police Force has paraded suspected members of a notorious “one-chance” criminal syndicate accused of abducting, torturing, and killing two nurses in the Federal Capital Territory despite allegedly receiving ransom payments from one of the victims’ families.

The suspects were presented to the public and reportedly demonstrated how they carried out their operations, including the methods used to lure, overpower, and restrain passengers inside commercial vehicles.

Police investigations identified the deceased nurses as Chinemerem Chukwumezie and Chinenye Bridget Abia, who were allegedly murdered about a month apart by the criminal gang.

According to investigators, Chinenye was kidnapped while travelling within Abuja and taken to an undisclosed location where she was held captive.

Her family was reportedly compelled to pay ₦3.5 million in ransom for her release.

However, police said the victim was allegedly killed despite the payment, and her body was later discovered near Katanpi Bridge along the Kubwa Expressway.

During a crime-scene reconstruction exercise, the suspects explained how the victims were targeted and subdued. One of the suspects stated that gang members strategically positioned themselves inside vehicles before threatening passengers with weapons, tying their hands, and blindfolding them.

Police authorities said the syndicate allegedly focused primarily on female passengers, believing they would be easier to overpower during attacks.

A female survivor of the gang also recounted her ordeal, describing the lasting psychological impact of the incident.

She said she continues to experience fear whenever boarding vehicles and disclosed that she lost more than ₦11.5 million and other valuables during the attack, including funds belonging to other people.

The arrests are part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to combat the persistent menace of “one-chance” robberies and kidnappings in Abuja and surrounding areas.

Authorities have indicated that investigations are continuing and that the suspects will face prosecution upon conclusion of the case.
