A young businessman reportedly broke down emotionally after burglars allegedly emptied his electronics plaza just days after it was stocked with gadgets purchased through a bank loan.
According to a viral video circulating online, the victim had recently opened the shop after investing heavily in phones, accessories, and other electronic devices.
Sources at the scene claimed the plaza was commissioned barely a week ago before tragedy struck overnight.
The burglars were said to have arrived with a truck and allegedly carted away a large quantity of gadgets after breaking into the building.
Witnesses also claimed the suspects destroyed the shop’s CCTV cameras before fleeing the area.
Devastated by the incident, the shop owner reportedly stripped down to his boxers and lay in the middle of the road in shock as sympathisers gathered around to console him.
In the trending video, residents could be seen trying to calm the distraught man while others poured water on him in an attempt to revive and comfort him.
A man who recorded the scene narrated the incident in the background, saying, “This is happening live in Asaba. Thieves just broke into this man’s plaza. That plaza you are seeing there belongs to him. They broke the CCTV cameras and made away with all his gadgets.”
An eyewitness said the man had remained in the same position for hours, refusing to get up.
Some people at the scene, however, cautioned against filming the victim while he was in distress.
The incident has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians lamenting the rising cases of burglary and insecurity affecting small business owners across the country.
Others also sympathised with the victim, noting the emotional and financial burden of losing goods allegedly purchased with borrowed funds.
