‘I married into a wealthy family, but it ended in tears,’ Actress Bukky Wright

Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has disclosed that she married into a wealthy family, but it ended in a disaster, with her young children being taken away from her.
Speaking during an interview at the Scar2Shine Emiralty Connect event, the actress said this was part of what spurred her to go into the film industry.
Wright said fame was never her motivation for becoming an actress, but an avenue to prove that she can amount to something and reconnect with her children.
“I actually started acting so that when my children grew up, they would know where to find me. I never imagined becoming a star,” she said.
Wright said the family of her husband never really believed she was worth anything and did not believe she would succeed in life.
“My children were taken from me when they were very young because I married into a very wealthy family, and they did not think I would become anything in life,” the actress revealed.
After proving her mettle in acting and becoming a household name, Bukky Wright relocated abroad, where she reunited with her children, years after they were allegedly taken away from her.
In 2025, she celebrated the wedding of her son, Eniola, to his partner, Sara Bonet.
After the ceremony, the actress wrote online that she was grateful to have witnessed her son’s special day and described herself as a proud mother.
It would be recalled that the talented actress disappeared from the movie scene about 10 years ago, relocating to Richmond, Texas, United States of America, where she focused on raising her children and rebuilding family bonds.
She reinvented herself professionally by moving into the tech industry, becoming a certified Information Security Auditor and working in cybersecurity.
The veteran actress recently returned to Nigeria permanently, explaining in previous interviews that she missed the sense of community, lifestyle, and fulfilment that comes with living at home despite the opportunities available abroad.
Since returning, Wright has resumed her acting career fully and has already featured in the movie Something About the Briggs, released in January 2025.
She is also currently working on another project titled The Return of Omotara Johnson.
One of her sons, Eniola, serves in the United States Air Force, while another son, Gbenga, popularly known as Ojayy Wright, is pursuing a music career.
