Woman sets husband, co-wife and two children ablaze in Kano

A violent domestic incident in Kano State has left multiple people with severe burns after a 28-year-old woman, Maryam Muhammad, allegedly attacked her co-wife, Firdausi Musa, and family members in the Hotoro area of Kano.

According to reports, the suspect allegedly poured petrol on Firdausi Musa, her two young children, and their husband, Saminu, before setting them ablaze late on Monday night, May 11, 2026, at Mai Allo area of Hotoro quarters.

The victims include two children, Khadija Ya’u (7) and Ismail Ya’u (3), who are currently receiving treatment alongside their mother at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, and Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano. 

The husband, who reportedly sustained burns while attempting to rescue them, is also undergoing medical care.

Family members say the attack followed escalating tensions in the polygamous household, with relatives alleging that the suspect had previously issued threats. 

One relative stated that the victim had complained of intimidation from the co-wife prior to the incident.

The suspect is currently in police custody at the Mariri Police Division as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Police have not yet released an official statement on charges, but sources confirm that investigations are ongoing to determine the full sequence of events leading to the attack.
