A Catholic priest, Peter Uche Onuoha, has dismissed viral reports surrounding a recent incident at Tansian University, Oba, Anambra State, describing the claims circulating online as false.

In a statement titled “False News Must Stop: Setting the Record Straight on the Incident at Tansian University Oba Campus,” Fr. Onuoha accused a platform identified as “For the Love of Anambra” of spreading fabricated accounts about the incident without proper verification.

According to him, the controversy began when unidentified armed men, who allegedly claimed to be operatives of the Department of State Services from Awka, arrived at the Tansian University premises seeking access to the residences of some school proprietors, including Rev. Valentine, Bro. Hector and Bro. Paulde Silas Inuen.

He alleged that the armed men requested the university security personnel to break into the residences, but the security operatives refused and insisted the visitors carry out such actions themselves if they were truly government agents.

Fr. Onuoha claimed the armed men temporarily left after meeting resistance, while some of the affected proprietors proceeded to report the matter to the police.

He further alleged that hours later, Edwin Obiora, Justin Egbe, Bonaventure Anetoh, alongside other individuals and armed men, returned to the campus and allegedly began forcing open doors and removing protectors from residences.

According to the statement, the development prompted the intervention of the local security outfit, Udo Ga Achi, after proprietors reportedly alerted community leaders.

Fr. Onuoha said some of the armed men were apprehended and assaulted during the ensuing confrontation, while Rev. Fr. Justin Egbe allegedly had his clothes torn.

He also addressed viral claims involving Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Anetoh, insisting the priest was not caught in any immoral act as alleged online.

According to him, Fr. Anetoh had run into a female hostel while trying to escape the chaos, but students allegedly forced him out because they were aware of existing tensions surrounding the removal of former Chancellor Rev. Fr. Dr Edwin Obiora SAN over alleged administrative misconduct.

“At no point was Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Anetoh caught engaging in any immoral act,” the statement stressed.

Fr. Onuoha condemned what he described as irresponsible journalism and warned against the spread of unverified information capable of damaging reputations and inflaming tensions.

“The public deserves truth, not propaganda. The people deserve facts, not fabricated alarms,” he stated.
