“I’m writing this from a place of pain” — Messages allegedly sent by Nigerian woman before death spark outrage

The death of a Nigerian woman identified as Omerebere Faith Okafor has triggered outrage online after alleged messages she sent about repeated domestic abuse resurfaced following her burial.
Faith, who was laid to rest on May 5, 2026, reportedly died from complications linked to high blood pressure during pregnancy, a condition her friends and advocates allege was worsened by years of physical abuse in her marriage.
Screenshots of conversations said to have been sent by the deceased in April 2025 were recently shared online by social media advocate NonyeCaresMedia, where Faith allegedly detailed the violence she endured in her home.
“I’m writing this from a place of pain,” one of the messages read.
According to the chats, Omerebere Faith Okafor claimed she had suffered domestic violence throughout her marriage and said a recent assault had left her injured and emotionally distressed.
“He beat me in front of his boys serving him and called me a maid,” the message stated.
Faith reportedly said she married at the age of 17 and had four children by the age of 25. She also claimed repeated complaints to family members yielded no intervention.
“I told his family people but nobody listens. Instead, they said I should leave my kids and go,” she allegedly wrote.
Her childhood friend, Ijeoma Okoli, had earlier shared posts demanding justice for the deceased and warning women against remaining in abusive relationships.
NonyeCaresMedia, who said Faith confided in her before her death, alleged that the woman died while pregnant with her fifth child after battling severe hypertension and complications associated with pre-eclampsia.
According to the advocate, Faith’s husband allegedly subjected her to repeated physical assaults during the marriage, including during previous pregnancies.
She further claimed the deceased’s family was attempting to change the narrative surrounding the circumstances of her death by stating she died during childbirth.
“Violence in marriage is a death sentence,” Nonye wrote while calling for accountability.
She also alleged that Faith’s age had been altered by family members to conceal the fact that she was married off at 17 to a significantly older man.
The allegations have since sparked emotional reactions on social media, with many Nigerians calling for investigations into the circumstances surrounding Faith’s death and renewed conversations about domestic violence, early marriage, and the pressures women face in abusive relationships.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from Faith’s husband regarding the allegations circulating online.
