The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has released the list of the highest scorers in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), with an Ekiti-born candidate, Owoeye Jesudunsin Daniella, emerging as the overall best performer nationwide.

JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede announced during the board’s 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions held in Abuja that Owoeye Jesudunsin recorded the highest score of 372 out of 400.

Jesudunsin, who sat for the examination in Ogun State, applied to study Medicine and Surgery at the University of Lagos.

Her score is slightly below the highest UTME score recorded in 2025, when Anambra-born candidate Chinedu Okeke scored 375.

Coming second in the 2026 ranking was Ikenna Enwere from Imo State, who scored 370.

Enwere selected Nile University as his first-choice institution and intends to study Computer Science.

Closely behind him was Ayomide Bamisile from Ondo State, who scored 369.

Bamisile applied to study Software Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

The announcement comes amid ongoing national conversations about academic standards after JAMB and heads of tertiary institutions recently approved 150 as the minimum admissible score for university admissions in the 2026 academic session.

The release of the top scorers list has, however, been cited by some education stakeholders as evidence that exceptional performances are still being recorded despite concerns over declining standards in the country’s education sector.
