MTN Nigeria has said it will compensate subscribers impacted by service disruptions in some parts of the country as directed by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
In a statement issued on Thursday, the telecom operator said customers in impacted areas would receive compensation for service shortfalls experienced between November and January, in line with the regulatory framework.
The company noted that the NCC’s directive underscores the regulator’s focus on consumer protection and service quality within Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
MTN stated that while it is complying fully with the compensation directive, its broader priority remains the delivery of reliable and high-quality network services to its subscribers.
To address the underlying challenges, the firm disclosed plans to intensify capital investment aimed at strengthening its network infrastructure. These include accelerated upgrades to next-generation equipment to expand capacity and meet rising demand for voice and data services.
The operator also said it is taking steps to improve network resilience by reinforcing infrastructure against environmental and third-party disruptions, which have been identified as key contributors to service instability.
In addition, MTN said it is working closely with its tower infrastructure partners to ensure that critical network assets meet required performance standards for efficient service delivery.
The company acknowledged that some operational challenges are linked to broader ecosystem issues beyond its direct control but reiterated its commitment to collaborating with stakeholders, including regulators and law enforcement agencies, to minimise disruptions.
MTN added that it will sustain heavy investment in infrastructure as part of its long-term strategy to support Nigeria’s digital economy and enhance customer experience.
