After decades of membership, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This was conveyed in a resignation letter dated July 14 and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Jada Ward 1 in Adamawa State.
The resignation is immediate, and the reason for he cited are, ‘irreconcilable differences and a shift in the party’s direction’.
He wrote in the letter that he found it necessary to part ways with the party due to the trajectory the party was taking, which was opposed to the foundational principles it was originally known for.
The former VP thanked the party for the roles it gave him, including fielding him as Vice President twice and as presidential candidate in the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections.
It would be recalled that Atike has been involved in an effort to bring opposition parties together in a coalition under the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) to beat All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 general elections.
