The sister of the late Freda Arnong, a staff of the Ghana High Commission who was beaten to death by one-chance robbers in Abuja has disclosed that she was viciously tortured by the robbers because they could not access her money.

Arnong Titus Ememobong in a Facebook post disclosed that Freda was not a techie person and did not use bank apps.

According to her, she preferred to walk into the banks to transact business directly.

She disclosed that her late sister had also lost her ATM two weeks earlier, so she had no ATM card to give the robbers when they asked for it.

Ememobong said the robbers were frustrated that they could not access her money in the bank and vented their anger on her.

She said the late Freda told them she could call her office to send them a ransom of N10 million, but the robbers ignored her.

According to her, they beat Freda so much that her ribs were broken, lungs punctured, and her kidneys damaged, among other things.

Ememobong said her sister was returning from her house fellowship near the CBN Institute, Maitama, Abuja, around 7 pm and going to her house at Pope John Paul Street when she boarded the one-chance taxi along the Transcorp Hilton road.

She said her sister was blindfolded immediately and severely tortured for hours by the robbers before they finally dropped her around 11:00 pm near the Moshood Abiola Stadium when she was almost dead from their torture.

Ememobong said Freda was there for some time, as most motorists sped past her without rendering any assistance.

She said a local vigilante later saw her and rushed her to the National Hospital, Abuja, where scans and X-rays revealed the nature of damage done to her internal organs.

She succumbed to her injuries at 3:00 am on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

Ememobong called for a driver/vehicle authentication system, where commuters could verify the identity and registration of commercial vehicles and their drivers in real-time before boarding.

In another post, she said her mother could not stop crying, and she was repeatedly saying that there was no way Freda could go ahead of her.

The authorities have yet to respond to the tragic incident.
