Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made on Friday, June 6, at the Government House in Uyo, where Eno declared that his decision followed “three months of wide consultation” with political stakeholders across the state.
Expressing gratitude to the PDP for its past support, Governor Eno said the switch was a “progressive move” to align Akwa Ibom with the federal government and strengthen collaboration with President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
“We are not joining the APC from a position of weakness, but from a position of strength. This is in the interest of our state and for effective collaboration with the centre,” Eno stated.
The defection ceremony was attended by key APC figures, including Progressive Governors Forum Chairman and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, as well as Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), and Bassey Otu (Cross River).
Governor Eno reaffirmed his commitment to serve all residents of Akwa Ibom, regardless of political affiliation.
