A Magistrate’s Court in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, has ordered the remand of a 20-year-old woman, Joy Ikoja, for allegedly causing injury to her boyfriend, Ibrahim Usman, by tearing his scrotum.
Ikoja was arraigned on Tuesday by the Ekiti State Police Command over the alleged assault on her partner.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Adeboye Adesegun, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on April 12 in the Irona area of Ado Ekiti.
“The defendant unlawfully inflicted a wound on one Ibrahim Usman by tearing his scrotal sac,” Adesegun stated, adding that she also behaved in a way likely to disturb public peace.
The offences, he said, are punishable under sections 186, 255, 256(a), and 181(d) of the Ekiti State Criminal Laws of 2021.
Adesegun urged the court to deny the defendant bail over fears she might abscond.
However, the defence counsel, David Ogbede, pleaded for bail, arguing that Ikoja remains innocent until proven guilty.
Magistrate Olatomiwa Daramola denied the bail application and ordered that Ikoja be remanded at the Ado Ekiti Correctional Centre.
The case was adjourned till April 22 for hearing.
