A woman identified as Oluchukwu Odo has been arrested by the police in Enugu State for allegedly killing her twin sister and niece in a shocking incident that has left the community in mourning.

Although efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Enugu State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, were unsuccessful as of press time, information gathered by Punch Metro on Thursday revealed that the incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday at the family residence in Umuidenyi, Aji, Enugu Ezike, Igbo Eze North Local Government Area.

A police officer at the Ogrute Divisional Police Headquarters, where Oluchukwu is being held, confirmed the arrest, noting that investigations are ongoing to determine what triggered the tragedy.

“We are doing everything possible to ensure justice is served,” the officer said on condition of anonymity.

Family sources said Oluchukwu’s twin sister had visited their parents’ home with her daughter when the attack happened.

In what was described as a fit of rage, Oluchukwu allegedly struck both her sister and the young girl with a heavy object, killing them on the spot.

A neighbour, who spoke anonymously, recounted the chilling moment Oluchukwu reportedly ran out of the house covered in blood and screaming for help.

According to additional eyewitness accounts, she also turned on her mother, stabbing her multiple times in the breast with a kitchen knife. The mother managed to escape to a neighbour’s house, raising an alarm.

Community vigilantes from the Aji Neighbourhood Watch reportedly chased and apprehended Oluchukwu in a nearby village.

A witness named Mama said she appeared remorseful upon arrest. “She kept saying she didn’t know what came over her,” Mama told Punch Metro. “She’s a single mum with a daughter, and maybe she was overwhelmed by stress.”

Oluchukwu remains in custody as investigations continue. The Enugu community remains stunned by the gruesome events, struggling to comprehend the motive behind the attack.
