A resident of Umuobe, situated near Barracks Junction along Opobo Road in Obingwa Local Government Area, allegedly threw his two young children from the upper floor of a storey building.
The suspect was apprehended by officers of the Nigeria Police Force after a tense standoff that drew dozens of frightened neighbours into the compound.
How the incident unfolded
According to eyewitnesses on the scene, the situation escalated rapidly inside the residential building.
After reportedly pitching his two children off the top-floor balcony, the man attempted to force his wife over the railing as well.
During the ensuing struggle, the suspect reportedly fell from the upper level himself, landing on the pavement below. He was later discovered lying unconscious at the scene, suffering from a severe head injury.
Surrounding neighbours quickly rallied to assist the family.
Both children were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent care.
Community sources confirmed that both children survived the drop, though their exact medical conditions remain undisclosed.
Alarmed by the violent outburst, residents alerted local law enforcement to stabilise the scene.
Police response and arrest
Operatives from the Nigeria Police Force arrived at the residential compound to take control of the situation and initiate a preliminary investigation.
Despite his head injury, the suspect reportedly resisted police efforts before being restrained and placed into a patrol vehicle.
The exact motives behind the violent act remain unknown as detectives continue to gather statements from family members and neighbours to determine what triggered the incident.
