Licence plates, driver's licence

The Joint Tax Board (JTB) has introduced new rates for driver’s licenses and vehicle number plates in Nigeria, which will take effect on November 1, 2024.

The decision aims to improve the security and quality of these documents, aligning them with global standards.

Under the revised pricing, Nigerians will now pay ₦15,000 for a three-year driver’s license and ₦21,000 for a five-year license.

Motorcycle and tricycle drivers will also face price adjustments, with a three-year license costing ₦7,000 and a five-year license costing ₦11,000.

For vehicle number plates, standard private and commercial plates will start at ₦30,000. Fancy number plates will cost ₦400,000, while motorcycle plates will be priced at ₦12,000. Dealer plates will be available for ₦100,000.

Government-issued fancy vehicle number plates will now cost ₦120,000, with standard plates priced at ₦80,000. Motorcycle plates will be available for ₦20,000 (standard) and ₦50,000 (fancy).

According to Olusegun Adesokan, Secretary of the JTB, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has been tasked with ensuring a smooth rollout by educating the public on the new rates through a comprehensive sensitization campaign.
