Some youths blocked the Ojodu-Berger end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday, as they protested the poor state of things in Nigeria.
The protesters, in their dozens, made bonfires on both sides of the road, and added other obstacles such as disused tyres, to prevent vehicles from passing.
As a result, the busy expressway was at a standstill for about an hour. The gridlock backed into inner roads that empty onto the expressway.
They carried a banner bearing the inscriptions: “Questions for politicians and Religious Leaders. What is the future of Nigeria? All highways in Nigeria be blocked. No movement nationwide.”
Security officers were contacted and were able to dislodge the protesters, freeing the held-up traffic.
Normalcy has returned to the road, although the backlog is yet to fully clear in some of the inner roads.
