A Nigerian mother has taken to social media to express her outrage at a Lagos-based school, Bookworkshop College, for kicking her daughter out for lateness.

In the now-viral video, the woman said her daughter, Favour, arrived at school at 8:30 am and was sent back home.

She said she was angry because she could not imagine what would have happened if she was not at home when she returned.

Favour’s mother said she called the school principal to complain but he cut the phone on her forcing her to go to the school physically.

She claimed that she was met with hostility in school as well and ended up being kicked out of the school premises too.

In the video she posted, she can be seen being challenged by the school staff about her recording within their premises.

While she insisted that she had a right to use her phone, the school staff insisted she could not film on their premises.

She said, “Good morning, guys so I met the principal, they just kicked me out of the school building, and now they are saying I can’t make a video.

“Favour came to school by 8:30 today, and they threw her out of school. They don’t know if I’m at home or not. Not for any reason because she came late; if I were the one who drove favour to school, by 8:30, I’m definitely sure they would not throw her out of school.

“If she came with the school bus, sometimes the bus gets to school by 10; they will definitely not throw her out of the school.

“I called the principal on the phone immediately after Favour got home because I was shocked because I was about to leave the house, and this man started insulting me on the phone and cutting the phone off.

“I have to come physically, and he is doing the same thing.”

Dana Airlines’ Air Transport Licence (ATL) and Air Operator Certificate (AOC) have been suspended indefinitely by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

This was announced in a statement released on Wednesday, July 20 and signed by NCAA Director-General Musa Nuhu.

NCAA said the license was suspended after they “discovered that the airline is no longer in a position to meet its financial obligations and to conduct safe flight operations”.

The suspension takes effect from midnight on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. The statement read:

“The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended Dana Airlines’Air Transport Licence (ATL) and Air Operator Certificate (AOC) indefinitely, with effect from midnight of Wednesday, 20th July 2022.

“The suspension was made pursuant to Section 35(2), 3(b), and (4) of the Civil Aviation Act, 2006 and Part 1.3.3.3(a)(1) of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (http://Nig.CARs), 2015.

“The decision is the outcome of a financial and economic health audit carried out on the airline by the authority, and the findings of an investigation conducted on the airline’s flight operations recently, which revealed that Dana Airlines is no longer in a position to meet its financial obligations and to conduct safe flight operations.

“The NCAA acknowledges the negative effect this preemptive decision will have on the Airline’s passengers and the travelling public and seeks their understanding, as the safety of flight operations takes priority over all other considerations.”

The airline has reported two incidents with the same aircraft.

The post NCAA suspends Dana Air over ‘inability to conduct safe flight operations’ first appeared on MicroSecondNews.

Recall that a viral video showed kegs containing petrol meant for sharing to guests who turned up at the Erelu Okin Foundation Installation party which was held on Friday, March 4, 2022.

A statement released by the state Commissioner of Information, Gbenga Omotoso, says the action is dangerous and can lead to loss of lives and property.

Omotoso stated that this is being investigated and all those involved will be made to account for it.

Read the statement below:

“The attention of the Lagos State Government has been drawn to a video showing kegs of petrol being handed out as souvenirs at an event Centre in Lagos. The video has gone viral on the social media.

There is no doubt that this action is dangerous and can lead to loss of lives and property. It is blatantly against all safety measures in such places.

The Lagos State Government through the Safety Commission is investigating this matter and will ensure that all parties to this reprehensible action are made to account for it.

The safety of lives and properties of Lagosians and visitors remain a top priority to the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration. We, therefore , advise that actions that can lead to loss of lives and properties be avoided.

Osaki Diri, a media aide to the member representing Degema state constituency, Rivers State House of Assembly, has died.

A friend of the deceased told LIB that Osaki Diri, who got married only in August, was electrocuted on Thursday, October 14, in Port Harcourt.

The source said Diri’s phone was charging when a call came in.

“He picked the call while it was charging and got electrocuted,” the source said.

“His wife saw him and tried helping but the electric threw her away,” our source added.

Hours before his sudden death, Osaki was active on Facebook, releasing a press statement for his local government council and engaging with friends on their posts.

His death leaves his wife of less than two months a widow. He got married in August 2021.

The Lagos State government has demolished some distressed buildings in the Lagos for public safety.

The demolition was done on Sunday and affected buildings located at 17b, Odo Osun Street, Off Glover Street; and 20, Omididun Street, both on the Lagos Island.

The General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Gbolahan Oki, said this would be a continuous exercise to rid the state of death traps.

Oki said that the demolition exercise was done on Sunday because of traffic congestion and for ease of moving the demolition equipment by officials of the agency.

He recalled that occupants of the buildings had been served different notices since 2019, with a reminder notice sent to them two weeks ago to vacate the buildings in order not to continue to endanger their lives and those of their neighbours.

The LABSCA boss stated, “We must begin to be very civil in our approach to issues, especially when it borders on human lives, by not waiting until the worst happens.

He said it was unbelievable that some people could still be pleading on behalf of occupants of the distressed buildings for more time from the government.

He expressed the hope that Lagosians would soon begin to follow the appropriate process of pulling down distressed buildings on their own without waiting for government to spend taxpayer fund on mobilising equipment and human resources for building demolition.

He advised Lagosians to prioritise their individual as well as collective safety, saying such considerations remain the major way of averting incessant building collapse.

In her own comments, Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) District Officer for Lagos Island, Yemisi Alaka, explained that LABSCA had earlier identified several distressed buildings across the state for demolition following a survey carried out by the agency and the reports and information received from members of the public.

The post Lagos pulls down distressed buildings on the Island first appeared on MicroSecondNews.

Most people have their phones passworded for the security of the sensitive information contained in them.

It is to be expected, because the mobile phone controls so much of the lives of the modern day man and woman that they cannot afford to leave it open for all comers.

The options for locking mobile phones are many these days, depending on the type of phones. Many Nigerians prefer locking their phones with a secret PIN, while many others opt for pattern or fingerprint locking.

There is however a problem associated with phone-locking. When the owner of the phone is involved in an emergency and cannot unlock his phone, the device becomes useless.

In an accident for instance when bystanders rush in to offer assistance and they want to reach the relatives of the victim, if the phone is locked, they are powerless.

It is for this reason that phone manufacturers have come up with a way to provide access to critical information on a phone in an emergency even when the phone is locked.

The solution has been around for a while, but many people do not know about it. We will show you how to make your phone useful to your helpers in an emergency even while it is locked.

By far the most common phones in Nigeria are android devices. To put your emergency information on your lockscreen, there are a couple of ways.

First you can open the Settings app, and tap “Security & location.” Next to “Screen lock,” tap “Settings.” Then tap on “Lock screen message.” Enter the message and tap “Save.” It is as simple as that.

Another way, depending on the type of phones, is to go to Settings app and tap “System > About phone > Emergency information.” Once it is open, you can put in the information you think will be useful in case you are involved in an accident.

There is also a provision for medical information. For this, tap on “Edit information.” If you don’t see “Edit information,” you may need to tap “Info” first. There’s also a section there for emergency contacts, and you can just tap “Add contact.” If you don’t see “Add contact” to tap on, you may have to first tap “Contacts.” Then, anyone will be able to get to that info by swiping up on the lock screen and tapping “Emergency,” then “Emergency information,” when it flashes.

For those who use Apple products, there is a health app into which emergency information has been incorporated. Tap the Health app, tap on the “Medical ID” tab, and then tap “Edit.” You can enter medical conditions, notes, allergies and reactions, medications, blood type, etc. The information will be available to anyone from the lockscreen by tapping “Emergency” and then “Medical ID.”

To add medical information on Samsung, go to Settings and tap “Lockscreen and security > Info and app shortcuts > Owner information.” You will then be able to type in whatever information you’d like to appear on your lock screen, and then choose “Done.”

To make it possible for someone to call your emergency contacts from the lockscreen, you’ll need to add phone numbers to the “ICE (In Case of Emergency)” Contacts group in the contacts app.

To do this, open the Contacts app, tap the “Groups” button in the top right corner. Tap on the “ICE – emergency contacts” group, and add your emergency contacts. Then hit “Save.”

To enable the calling of emergency contacts from the lock screen, you’ll need to make sure your phone is locked first. Then go to the lock screen without actually unlocking it. Hold the phone icon and drag it to the centre. When the keypad shows up, hit the “Emergency Call” button. Then you can add contacts from your emergency group by hitting the “+” symbol by each new contact. You can have up to 3 contacts from the ICE group.

The post How to make your phone useful in emergency first appeared on MicroSecondNews.

No one was alarmed for them.

You won’t find this in any society that cares about human life.

We are still ‘anyhow’ people around here. No safety considerations. No regard for life. You still find people climbing electric poles to mess with cables without wearing gloves. Conductors still hang from moving vehicles.

People still ferry containers on flatbeds without latching them. Containers still routinely fall on smaller vehicles killing people till today.

Oh, well. That’s why we are still a third world country.

The post Playing with death first appeared on MicroSecondNews.

I was probably doing between 80 and 100kph and had barely passed when it actually landed on the fast lane and rolled across the rest of the lanes.
