Former Nigerian military Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, has said history will judge him for his service to Nigeria, adding that he did his best for Nigeria.

Babangida said his greatest achievement was to know more about the country and make friends across the board.

Addressing journalists at his Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State, the former Nigerian leader, however, admitted to adopting coercion and dialogue as leadership styles.

When asked about his achievements during his time as Head of State, he said, “Number one is that I served the country the best I could.

“It may not be to your satisfaction but to the best that I could; I leave that to history to judge.

“I related fairly well with the people of the country. I had no problem with them and I got to know the country more as I was well travelled.

“I made friends all over the country and I thought that was one of the greatest achievements.”

IBB, as he’s popularly referred to, urged young Nigerians to understand the country because they are the leaders of tomorrow.

“You have an opportunity now as young people, get to know the country, study the country, the people, and if you are able to do that or to understand that, basically, I think that will go a long way to prepare you for the eventual leadership of the country.

“Just like any other style, you are placed in a leadership position; your job is to lead people. You develop a situation where people look up to you to provide certain solutions to their problems or to their fears,” he added.

The post History will judge me.
The aide further added that there’s no cause for alarm as the former leader only travelled for a routine medical check-up.

He told reporters: “I did not discuss with Oga before he left Nigeria and where he had travelled to and why.

“I know he is due for a medical check-up because recently he has not gone for it.

“Therefore I believe that he travelled to Germany on Saturday for the medical check-up.”

The post IBB in Germany for medical check-up- Aide first appeared on MicroSecondNews.

Former military Head of State, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) has said that the next president of the country must not be an old person.

Speaking on the ideal candidate for the role in 2023 in a chat with Daily Trust, he said the person must be a very good communicator.

The former president said the person should be able to engage people on any issue concerning the country.

“He should be able to communicate because a president should be able to walk into a group of people and talk to them on issues concerning Nigeria; not all the time but most of the time.

“He must have somebody he knows in every part of the country. It is not a tall order.

“You could limit it to states, you could limit it to local governments even to the wards if you can but somebody such that once you hear the name, it is somebody you will say, yes, I have heard that name before either in the country or in his profession; if he is a doctor, a journalist or whatever, all areas, we have heard the name before; okay then I will make an effort to know more about him,” he said.

Asked if it was true that he remarried after the death of his wife Maryam Babangida, he said:

“No, I didn’t do it. You would have known.

“The media still snoop around me, they should have known. I haven’t. It is a matter of choice; I decided to honour her by being not a bachelor but being unmarried.”

The post ‘Next president must not be an old person’ -IBB first appeared on MicroSecondNews.
