A man was left with a brain bl33d and fighting for his life after a stranger brutally assaulted him in Wales apparently, for wearing a rainbow watch strap.

Kaspian Oaken, 39, recalled walking down a residential road in Barry while listening to music when a man in a grey hooded tracksuit approached him.

He said the man started punching him without warning at about 6 pm on February 1.

The beating was so severe that Kaspian suffered a brain bl33d, skull fractures, a damaged eye socket and severe bruising that caused his face to double in size.

He was he was on his way to the shops along Court Road when the incident happened.

“It was very, very terrifying. There was that adrenaline burst and at the time you don’t realise quite what has happened. It was a shock” he said.

He added: “I was just walking minding my own business keeping my head down. He just comes up to me and starts hitting me in the face. After a few punches I just fell to the ground and he ran off.

“I managed to get up and then I was freaking out obviously because I was covered in blood.

“I carried on walking a little bit until my legs buckled and I just fell. I couldn’t move my legs for some reason. I just had to sit there.

“It’s a possibility [it was a hate crime] but it’s not like I was advertising it.

“I was dripping with blood but still thinking: ‘I need to carry on what I’m doing’.”

Kaspian believes that the LGBTQ+ Pride Apple Watch strap he was wearing was possibly why he was attacked. But given it was dark, he remained unsure.

According to Apple, the rainbow strap was designed to show “the strength and inclusivity of the LGBTQ+ community”.

Kaspian was driven home by two concerned strangers but collapsed, so phoned 999 and was taken to A&E.

He said: “My right eye is very, very damaged… It’s a lot of bruising. A lot of bumps from where the skull has been impacted. [My face is] double its usual size.

“If the injuries were worse it could’ve been life-threatening. It was very close to being more brain-damaged because of the brain bleed.

An unassuming young gay man who moved to Manchester in the UK thinking the city supported gay rights and was ‘inclusive’ was almost killed in a homophobic attack.

Morgan Fevre, 22, ended up with a bleed on the brain and a severely fractured eye socket and cheekbone following the attack in the early hours of April 10.

Before the attack, Morgan was a support worker for adults with learning difficulties and moved to Manchester from the small market town of Retford, Nottinghamshire, for work more than a year ago.

Reacting to the homophobic crime, his father Paul Fevre said: ‘The man said to him “Why are you wearing a girl’s jacket you f**king f*g?”

‘That’s the last that he remembers. In 2022, that people are called these names and these things happen to them – it is absolutely horrendous.’

Police confirmed the incident happened in Chinatown at 1.35 am and it was a ‘homophobically aggravated assault’

An eye witness, Paul, 53, from Retford, Nottinghamshire, said Morgan had been out in Manchester city centre with friends.

Paul says he believes Morgan’s attacker first asked Morgan for a cigarette before attacking him.

He said: ‘The man said to him “why are you wearing a girl’s jacket, you f**king f*g?”

Paul added: ‘Morgan has gone to Manchester thinking it’s great – you can go out and be who you are.

‘Then this happens. This has knocked him back, but we are all here for him. Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the reasons he came to Manchester was because of the city’s inclusiveness.’

Morgan, who lives with his partner Elliot Lyte in Didsbury, was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary by ambulance at around 2.15 am.

Morgan’s boyfriend, Elliot, 30, said he was last seen walking from a pub.

‘He sent his last text message to a friend at 1.30 am,’ said Elliot, who believes Morgan may have been followed by the man who attacked him.

Morgan was transferred to Salford Royal Hospital for emergency surgery to save his life.

He also had three broken teeth and a badly broken nose, which was fractured in four places.

More than 40 staples that doctors used following Morgan’s emergency craniotomy have been removed and he was discharged on Wednesday evening, April 21.

Elliot added: ‘In a country of progression and in a city which was somewhere called the Gay Village, that this can happen, and these words said, is baffling and upsetting.

‘Morgan is doing well, but this will leave lasting scars both physically and mentally.’

A man from Florida, US has been left permanently blind after an alleged anti-gay attack from the Ukrainian family of his boyfriend.

The victim, who told police to respect his wish to remain anonymous, is a 31-year-old resident of Pompano Beach, and says he was ambushed by the family member of his supposed boyfriend of nine months because they believed he had turned their family member gay.

Last week, the Broward State Attorney’s Office filed hate crime charges against three members of a South Florida family — Inna Makarenko, 44; Yevhen Makarenko, 43, and Oleh Makarenko, 21- all refugees from Ukraine but now reside in Florida— who are accused of “severely beating a man based on his sexual orientation.” They are facing charges of attempted murder, battery, and kidnapping.

Another member of the family, 25-year-old Vladyslav Makarenko, was transferred from Alabama to the Broward County jail system on April 11 for his alleged involvement in the attack according to a police statement on Thursday, April 21.

Police authorities said that the victim was attacked in early August 2021 and “has been permanently blinded and sustained other serious injuries as a result of the incident.”

On Wednesday night, April 20, a report by CBS Miami says a newly-released arrest warrant shows the victim told investigators that he had been in a relationship with Oleh.

According to the victim, Oleh told him that in late July 2021, his parents found out that he was gay. After that, his father began “treating him poorly and not accepting him, and his mother was forcing him to marry a woman.”

The victim told police that on Aug 6, he suspected that something was wrong when Oleh asked him for his address, even though he had his own key and had stayed there several times.

Around 1 a.m., when the victim came to open the gate for Oleh, he also saw his family there, whom he recognized from photos Oleh had shown him.

Oleh appeared nervous and shouted “Go inside!” but the family forced their way into the victim’s apartment.

According to the arrest warrant, as the victim was being beaten, he turned to the mother and said, “Unfortunately, your son is gay.”

At that point “one of them grabbed an unknown object and struck him in the face, [the victim] stated. After falling to the floor, he pretended to be dead so they would believe he was dead and stop beating him.”

Hours after the alleged attack, a police officer who was at his building for an unrelated event saw the victim’s door open and saw him lying on the floor with blood surrounding him.

The victim, who was medically intubated for three weeks, did not initially tell police what happened. It was not until February that the man said “his memory of the incident” had returned and he wanted to press charges.

In addition to becoming blind, the man suffered extensive injuries, including a concussion, severe bruising and brain swelling, multiple fractures in his facial bones, and a fractured jaw. He’s had four surgeries and will need at least two more. He “has been told he will most likely never regain eyesight in either eye again,” according to the warrant.

The victim has also racked up over $100,000 in medical bills, the warrant said. “This crime was a senseless and unprovoked attack done onto a homosexual man, just due to the mere fact that he was homosexual,” Detective Ryan wrote.

A waitress was stripped naked and beaten by a gang of men in Cameroon and the assault, which lasted for several hours, was filmed.

The 27-year-old was beaten with twigs, sexually assaulted and humiliated by the mob in Yaoundé on November 15, according to Human Rights Watch.

An intersex person has the characteristics of both sexes, especially the male and female reproductive organs.

The human rights group who publicized the case used the term ‘intersex’ to describe the victim without stating if the victim indeed has both sexual organs or she is just merely bisexual.

The footage of the assault was circulated in two video clips on social media and shows Sara (not real name) being hit several times by the group.

According to medical reports, the victim suffered multiple hematomas all over her body as a result of the assault.

Doctors also said that Sara needed to be monitored for 15 to 18 days due to the severe and shocking injuries she sustained.

Sara, who is described as being intersex by Human Rights Watch, is believed to have been attacked due to her sexuality.

It is illegal to be homosexual in Cameroon and those who are can be jailed up to by five years upon conviction.

The group met Sara in a bar before she was dragged outside, reportedly by her hair, and was attacked and humiliated.

Nkwain Hamlet, executive director of Cameroonian LGBT+ rights group Working For Our Wellbeing, said: “The recent attack on an intersex person in the city of Yaoundé is something to be strongly condemned.

“No one is to face that kind of treatment.”

Following the attack, the Cameroonian Foundation for AIDS (CAMFAIDS), a human rights organisation filed a complaint with the police on behalf of Sara as a victim of assault, battery, and inhuman and degrading treatment.

The group is currently providing Sara with support, including for medical and psychological assistance.

Police arrested one man in connection with the brutal attack but he was released just 48 hours later.

Human Rights Watch say that the police have not made a public statement on the violent assault on Sara.

On their website, they said: “Their silence over this high-profile incident of senseless violence against an LGBTI victim risks sending a message of tolerance for such abuse and highlights the government’s failure to protect LGBTI Cameroonians.

“Police should urgently respond to CAMFAID’s complaint, investigate the attack against Sara, and bring those responsible to justice. They should also ensure the safety of LGBTI activists who are doing crucial work in a climate of intimidation and violence.”
