Colleagues of a commercial s3x worker in Akure, Ondo State, have taken to the streets to protest her untimely death during a scuffle with her customer, who was dissatisfied with her services.

The late scarlet lady had been involved in an altercation with her customer, who paid her N15,000 to sleep with her overnight.

Her friends said the lady was sick, but when a man approached her for an overnight appointment at her workplace in the Cathedral area of Akure, she agreed.

However, after unspecified rounds, the lady complained that she was weak and could no longer continue. This infuriated the customer, who in the morning demanded his full refund.

The late s3x worker was said to have resisted the request for a refund on the grounds that the man had already slept with her.

Colleagues intervened

The customer reportedly became aggressive and began to struggle with the late call girl, prompting the intervention of her colleagues and others in the vicinity.

The colleagues prevailed on the angry customer to forgo the N15000 he paid, citing the evidence of used condoms seen inside the room to conclude that the man had enjoyed the service he paid for.

The customer reportedly left only to return with some hefty young men to assist him in recovering his money from the call girl.

In the heat of the struggle, the late scarlet lady became weak and wanted the trouble to end by refunding the man.

Unfortunately, she became weaker by the minute. Her colleagues, who did not know the severity of her condition, thought she was only tired and tried to refund the angry customer using the late s3x worker’s phone.

They, however, encountered difficulties with accessing the bank app of the late s3x worker to do the transaction.

Police intervention

When the man refused to go and return later and continued to make trouble, they called in the police from the ‘A’ Division.

The aggrieved customer and three of the men who came with him were arrested. The others fled.

The health condition of the s3x worker had deteriorated significantly by this time, and her colleagues rushed her to a hospital. The hospital considered her case too severe and referred her to the police hospital in Akure.

She was confirmed de@d on arrival at the hospital.

Colleagues protest

Her colleagues are now saying that the customer precipitated her untimely de@th by fomenting trouble and aggravating her pre-existing condition.

They are calling for protection for the women engaged in their line of work, because they come up against too many hazards in the course of their job.

The women are also calling for health insurance for s3x workers. They argue that the late s3x worker would have gone to the hospital the moment she began to feel unwell if she had enjoyed health insurance coverage.

The s3x workers called on both the government and brothel owners to institute procedures and policies to ensure their safety at work/

A colleague of the late s3x worker, Patricia Uwonkolo, told the state newspaper, Hope, that it had become increasingly dangerous to do their work.

She lamented that no one cared about them, and so, they had to take care of themselves by looking after their health and safety.

Uwonkolo also complained that customers expected unreal performances, which led some women into substance abuse.

She claimed that she tried to avoid falling into that trap by opting for natural herbs instead. She said this was necessary to enable her to satisfy her customers and prevent the stigma and trauma associated with not satisfying their customers.

When contacted for a comment on the death of one of her workers, the owner of the brothel where the tragedy occurred declined to speak. She directed the publication to go to the police.

The Ondo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, said the matter was being investigated.

He also confirmed that the customer and the three men he hired to fight for him were in police custody. He said plans were ongoing to apprehend the others who fled.

A man created panic at a local brothel when he was unable to stand up on his feet after reportedly having a marathon sexual encounter with three commercial sex workers at a go.

A viral video shared online showed one of the sex workers holding the unidentified man so that he would not fall down.

They were done and he was apparently on his way out when he felt weak and one of the sex workers rushed to hold him. She can be heard calling out to her colleagues to bring a chair for him.

A man behind the camera can be heard laughing at the man. Some other voices can also be heard querying the so-called strength of the man. Others failed to take the situation serious as they continued to mock the man.

A couple of the sex workers can be seen frantically working on the man. They poured water on him and also rubbed olive oil on his head, all in a bid to get him back on his feet.

Some sex workers in Accra region of Ghana have announced an upward review of their rates on account of inflation and attendant economic hardship in the country.

The sex workers revealed that the increment in fuel prices coupled with general constraints, have affected their work so badly that they had to increase their charges.

Their clients are now being charged between $50 and $300 for a brief session lasting between 15-20 minutes and as much as $300 for a full night.

The sex workers also pleaded with their clients to bear with them over the increase, according to JoyNews, Ghana’s 24-hour television news station.

Now retired, these two ladies command huge respect in the famous Amsterdam’s red-light district for their commitment and rare achievements.

No one is believed to have practiced the trade longer than twin sisters, Louise and Martine Fokken.

They are credited with more than a century of experience between them, doing nothing else other than satisfying the sexual needs of men.

They were given the title of the District’s ‘oldest window girls’ back in 2012 before their retirement.

The siblings have even had a documentary made about them called ‘Meet the Fokkens’, as well as a book all about their incredible lives.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Louise explained how she got into the sex industry.

She said: “I was beaten on to the streets by my husband in my early 20s.

He told me unless I earned money for him he would leave me, and I had children and loved him, so I had to do it.”

Meanwhile, Martine was giving birth to her first child when she was told her twin sister was working in the famous windows.

She didn’t realise Louise was struggling for money, so she offered to help.

Louise added: “Later on they needed a cleaner in the brothel and Martine took the job and the men asked her for business.

“So we started doing threesomes, and that was how we ended up working in the same house [window brothel] together.”

The sisters said it was much easier being in the sex industry together because they could keep each other safe.

Martine spoke of one experience to the BBC, when she told a client to take off his clothes and suspected something was up.

It wasn’t until she felt under the pillow that she discovered he had hidden a massive knife.

Talking about how they kept their clients’ interests, Martine said she decided to specialise in bondage for older men and targeted those who have a penchant for pain with pleasure.

She said in an interview with the BBC, “We know the tricks, we know what they want. We know how to talk to them and we know how to make them laugh too.”

The twins said they look back on their days in the red light district with fond memories.

Louise was the first to retire, due to arthritis. Her sister followed suit shortly after.

Louise told the Guardian that the industry became worse, with the authorities demanding for more tax and the clients becoming wilder and more dangerous.

The Jigawa State Government has issued a thirty-day ultimatum to all commercial sex workers operating in the state to vacate.

Speaking through the Council Chairman Alh. Zaharadden Abubakar disclosed this on Friday after he received a delegation of Sara community, a popular weekly market, in his office.

He said the aim is to tackle immorality in the state.

All the commercial sex workers operating in the area are to present names of their suitors to the appropriate authority before expiration of the dateline or vacate the state.

He explained that the council is ready to marry off all the indigenous repented commercial sex workers and take care of all the wedding responsibilities.

Abubakar said the council will repatriate non-indegenous sex workers in the state back to their states of origin.

He also directed the immediate closure of all clubs and beer parlours.

The council boss said the council had mobilized police and other security agencies to arrest defaulters.

Sex workers in Mombasa County, Kenya have threatened to hold demonstrations today, Thursday July 8 over lack of condoms in public health facilities.

Conveying their grievance through Nkoko Injuu Africa, a group that champions the rights of sex workers in the Coast region, the sex workers said they are at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS.

The group’s Executive Director, Maryline Lain said, “If nothing changes by the end of tomorrow, we are moving to the streets. Condoms are being distributed by the government for free, but why don’t we get them? We need those answers.

“We have held a series of meetings with the relevant offices but as we speak they have not been providing us with condoms and as you are aware using condoms properly and consistently reduces risk of contracting HIV.”

National Aids Control council Coast Coordinator, Omari Mwanjuma, who reacted to the threat of protest said condoms are available in public facilities, however in limited numbers.

Mwanjuma said: “I’m aware that there are stocks of condoms in all health facilities. The only worry is that they may not last for long.”

Bauchi State government says it has plans to organise mass weddings for willing sex workers as a way of rehabilitating them.

The state government will also conduct a headcount of all sex workers operating in the state so as to have an accurate data on them.

According to agency report, Aminu Balarabe-Isah, permanent commissioner in charge of Hisbah and Sharia implementation, disclosed these in Bauchi on Monday during a sensitisation workshop organised for sex workers.

The official disclosed that the information gathered from the headcount would assist the commission to come up with measures that would discourage sex workers from continuing their trade.

He further said that preliminary investigations by the agency indicated that some factors contributed to pushing some ladies into the trade. These, according to him, included, illiteracy, poverty, and lack of parental care or maltreatment from step mothers.

He said that the government would make necessary effort to re-unite many of the sex workers with their parents.

In addition, he said the government would organise empowerment programmes for the sex workers as well as provide them with capital to start small-scale businesses.

Responding on behalf of the sex workers, Hafsatu Azare, said they were willing to quit the trade if government could empower them economically.

She described their conditions as deplorable.
