The police in Edo State have arrested one Kelvin Izekor for the m8rder of his 38-year-old wife, Success Izekor.
The tragic incident caused apprehension at the Upper Mission Extension area of Benin City on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
A fellow community member said the couple recently got married.
She said the community was shocked to learn of the incident especially as the couple just married each other.
A graphic video circulating online shows security men and residents taking the lifeless body of the deceased with deep cuts machete on her head, from her apartment into a waiting police van.
The Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, said that the husband was about to be lynched by an irate mob before the police arrived and rescued him.
He said it took serious efforts by the police to pacify the mob, rescue the suspect, and take him into custody for investigation.
The body of the deceased was taken to the hospital for formal confirmation of death before being deposited in a mortuary.
The PPRO said state Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, condemned the recent rise in cases of domestic violence.
She reportedly also assured that the incident would be thoroughly probed.
