A female tourist who leaned dangerously out of a train to take a selfie on a famous track has d!ed after smashing into a rock and falling off the train.
Sri Lankan news site Daily Mirror reported that Olga Perminova, 53, a Russian tourist, was on the Podi Menike train, which covers a 300km-long scenic route between Colombo Fort and Badulla in Sri Lanka when the tragedy happened.
Local police reported that the victim was taking a selfie when she was smashed against a rock and was thrown off the train, sustaining severe injuries in the process.
They said the incident happened when the train, headed towards Colombo Fort, was between the Badulla and Hali Ela railway stations.
Some photos recovered shows Ms Perminova right before the tragedy wearing a pink dress and hanging from the train footboard.
After her fall, she was given emergency treatment before being rushed to a hospital where she d!ed from her head injuries.
Ms Perminova was with a Russian tour group Sri Lanka at the time of the incident. Arrangements are under way to return her body to Russia.
The victim was reportedly a grandmother originally from Saratov in south-western Russia, and worked for a security company in Moscow, according to British news site The Sun.
It would be recalled that two women d!ed on a train track at Anuradhapura New Town railway station in northern Sri Lanka in December 2024.
The victims, an 18 year-old student and a 37-year-old mother of another student, were taking selfies on the track when a train hit them.
