Man drowns while retrieving phone from well in Ogun

A 31-year-old man, Sunday Jimoh, has drowned in a well while trying to retrieve his phone that fell into it.
The tragic event happened on February 22, 2025, at about 10:00 am.
The spokesperson for the state police command, CSP Omolola Odutola, told newsmen that the incident was reported by Kabiru Aladeshayi Ayigbere, a resident of the Junction Area, Oja-Odan.
Ayigbere said he witnessed the deceased attempting to enter a well beside his shop and discouraged him from doing so because of the danger involved.
“Jimoh reportedly insisted on retrieving a phone that had accidentally fallen into the well, despite warnings against the dangerous act.
He said when he left the place, Jimoh entered the well and was not able to come out.
“Upon receiving the report, detectives swiftly responded to the scene, and rescue experts were contacted to recover the body. A preliminary investigation found no signs of violence, confirming that the incident was an unfortunate accident.”
The police spokesperson said that the family of the deceased had been notified and they had requested to bury the remains in accordance with Muslim rites.
