The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the mysterious killing of a farmer, Alfa Mustapha, whose lifeless body was discovered on his farm in Ageri Village, near Olodo, Odeda Local Government Area.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the 50-year-old farmer had gone to his farm on Saturday morning but failed to return home.
Concerned about his whereabouts, the Chief Imam of Ageri Mosque, Moshood Mustapha, went in search of him and found his body lying face-up with his cutlass beside him.
Mustapha immediately reported the incident to the police outstation in Olodo at about 6:30 p.m.
Officers arrived at the scene, took photographs, and moved the body to the General Hospital, Odeda, for examination.
Initially, no signs of violence were detected due to poor visibility caused by heavy rainfall. However, a medical examination later revealed that the farmer had sustained gunshot wounds from pellets, suggesting he was shot at close range.
Following this discovery, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered an intensive investigation to track down those responsible for the killing.
The police have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward, assuring that every effort will be made to bring the perpetrators to justice.
