An American woman has been apprehended after allegedly shooting a woman who was sitting in the passenger seat of a car being driven by her ex-boyfriend shortly after they split.

Latorray Collins, 38, was taken into in custody by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, Feb. 16.

She now faces attempted murd£r in the second degree according to inmates records.

Miami Herald reported that Collins’ ex-boyfriend told police he had broken up with her just days prior.

He also told authorities he was in an intimate relationship with the married victim, First Coast News reported.

The victim has been identified as 42-year-old Latasha Taylor.

The suspect had allegedly called and texted her ex for him to come and pick up his things from her home, however, he instructed her to throw them away instead, the Miami Herald reports.

The ex-boyfriend had allegedly been driving Taylor’s car on Saturday, Feb. 15 when Collins began calling him again.

He reportedly ignored her calls and stopped at a liquor store with Taylor and some of her family members before they made their way to another location.

Collins reportedly caught up with her ex at a red light and pulled her vehicle in front of Taylor’s, but he reversed and drove around her car.

Collins caught up with them once again at another stoplight, according to the Herald which cited the police.

The suspect allegedly exited her vehicle and started knocking on Taylor’s car window, prompting Taylor to demand who she was and why she was chasing them. This led to a verbal confrontation.

Collins’ ex-boyfriend said he heard a “loud noise” before Taylor fell to the ground. The police later recover a .380 caliber shell from the scene.

The husband of the victim, Tony Taylor, told  Action News Jax, that they were preparing to spend their 15th anniversary together before Latasha was shot in the head.

“She met me when I was going through a tough time in my life. She showed me how much she cares about people. I was at rock bottom, and she saved my life,” Tony said in an interview.

“The shooter was arguing with a male that was in the car. My wife got out to try to defuse the situation and just leave and that’s when the girl shot her,” Tony continued.

Latasha is reportedly making progress despite the severe injury.

“She wasn’t supposed to make it past Saturday, but she’s still holding on for us,” her husband told the news station.

Collins is due at the Duval County Courthouse on March 11.
