Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has declared himself a “madman” undergoing treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.
He made the announcement after the Ogun State Police Command declared him wanted for allegedly leading a violent assault on government officials.
On February 5, 2025, officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development’s Ota Zonal Office—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—were assaulted while conducting an enforcement exercise at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota.
The team encountered an elderly man, later identified as Portable’s father, at Odogwu Bar.
Upon introducing themselves and requesting the building’s approved plan, the father informed them that his son was unavailable.
Shortly thereafter, Portable allegedly arrived, armed with a firearm and accompanied by nine associates, and attacked the unarmed officials.
The officials sustained various injuries but managed to escape and report the incident to the Ota Area Command.
While nine of Portable’s accomplices were arrested, the singer reportedly fled the scene and has since been in hiding.
Following the incident, the Ogun State Police Command issued multiple formal invitations to Portable, requesting his presence at their headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The singer allegedly ignored these summonses without providing any legal representation.
Consequently, the police obtained a valid court order declaring him wanted. The command has urged the public to provide any information that could lead to his immediate arrest, warning that anyone found aiding or harboring the suspect will face legal consequences.
In response to the police declaration, Portable took to his Instagram account on February 18, 2025, claiming he was being targeted due to political affiliations, specifically wearing a vest featuring Senator Adeola Solomon, popularly known as Yayi.
He further asserted his mental health status, stating, “I fear government. I am a federal government liability. Then I’m a madman; I have medications that I usually take. You can confirm from Aro Hospital. I have a card that certifies me as one of their patients.”
Despite Portable’s assertions, the Ogun State Police Command has dismissed his claims of undergoing psychiatric treatment.
Police Public Relations Officer Omolola Odutola emphasized that Portable remains a wanted individual and must present himself for investigation. Odutola stated, “Portable will come and submit himself.
He cannot be in the psychiatric hospital in Aro. Everybody knows he is a wanted person. If he is in any facility, the police must be informed. He is a wanted man.”
This development follows the arraignment of nine of Portable’s associates before a Magistrate Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, on charges including felony, assault, unlawful restriction, possession of weapons, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
The defendants pleaded not guilty and were granted bail. The case has been adjourned until March 17, 2025, for further hearing.
