
The Ekiti State Police Command has apprehended Mr. Jimoh Abdulrahman for allegedly assaulting his wife, Mrs Akintunde Bidemi Taiwo, a nursing mother.
The arrest occurred on Saturday, February 15, 2025, after a disturbing video of the incident circulated widely online.
The assault came to public attention when a video depicting the brutal attack was shared across various social media platforms.
In response to the public outcry, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Eribo, directed the Divisional Police Officer of the Oke-Ila Division to identify and apprehend the suspect promptly.
By 7:00 p.m. on the same day, police operatives had arrested Mr. Abdulrahman at his residence in the Nova Area of Ado-Ekiti.
In a press release, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the arrest and provided details of the incident:
“On February 15, 2025, at approximately 19:00 hours, the Ekiti State Police Command arrested Jimoh Abdulrahman for brutally assaulting his wife, Mrs. Akintunde Bidemi Taiwo, at Nova Area, Ado-Ekiti.”
SP Abutu further stated that the case has been transferred to the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for comprehensive investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
The viral video has sparked widespread condemnation from the public and various advocacy groups.
Many have taken to social media to express their outrage and demand justice for Mrs. Taiwo.
