MTN Nigeria has apologised for the recent hike in the price of its weekly 15GB data bundle from about N2000 naira to N6000, but it now displays an even costlier alternative.
In a light-hearted statement written in pidgin, the telecommunications service provider said the hike was a mistake.
The plan has now disappeared from the bundle table on its official website. The closest to the plan is the 7GB data which is priced at N3000.
By implication, 14GB of weekly data now costs a subscriber N6000, a worse bargain than the 15GB data for N6000 which the subscribers kicked against.
MTN’s apology reads in part:
“To our 15G digital bundle lovers, you dey vex. We know”
“We know how upsetting it must have been to suddenly wake up to a 200% increase on your favourite digital bundle.
“We could share several reasons, and provide explanations, but omo, all that one na story.
“We don cast. We get it and admit it. Let’s just say na mistake.
“In this love season, don’t stay angry with us. Please forgive and forget. You matter die and we will never stop showing you how much.
“Let’s continue our relationship. Thank you for your understanding.”
It would be recalled that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) approved a request from telecommunications companies to raise prices, marking the first official review since 2013.
The hike implemented on the data plans by MTN Nigeria however exceeded the approved 50 per cent limit.
