The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is facing legal action for allowing boxers Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympics despite previous gender eligibility concerns.

Algeria’s Khelif and Taiwan’s Yu-ting secured gold medals last summer, even though they had been disqualified from the 2023 World Championships for failing gender eligibility tests.

The International Boxing Association (IBA), the Russian-led governing body that conducted those tests, has now filed legal complaints against the IOC.

The IBA is citing former U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive order banning transgender women from female sports, claiming the IOC’s actions violated eligibility rules.

Complaints have been submitted to the attorney generals of Switzerland, France, and the U.S., alleging that the IOC’s decision posed safety risks and could warrant criminal prosecution under Swiss law.

The IBA has also pledged financial and legal support for affected Paris 2024 boxers who wish to take legal action.

The IOC had previously stripped the IBA of its status as boxing’s governing body in 2023 over ethical and financial concerns.
