The owner of Labech Hospital and Maternity in Owerri, Imo State is currently in police custody after an aggrieved husband accused her of k!lling his wife, Mrs Favour Onyedika, with quackery and negligence.
The husband claimed the surgeon who performed the operation was consulting a YouTube tutorial to conduct a Caesarian Section (CS) on his wife.
The doctor unsuccessfully tried to deliver Mrs Favour Onyedika of a baby; both the mother and baby d!ed.
The husband said in an interview:
“Right in my presence, they were using their phones to watch a YouTube video on how to perform surgery.
“I lost my wife and my baby during the process,” he said.
The news was broken on Instagram by film producer Stanley Ontop who said someone hinted him about the incident and he went in search of the hospital.

He wrote in Pidgin:
“LABECH HOSPITAL AND MATERNITY MCC Road Owerri Imo state Allegedly kpai one woman wa come born for their hospital oo
The woman and her unborn child kpai for the process of the operation. Negligence from the doctors and nurses allegedly caused her de@th💔😭💔
No blood bank, no sterilizer and more.
The Owner of the hospital has been arrested and an investigation ongoing… the surgeon who performed the operation has refused to report to the police. Justice for Mrs Favour Onyedika”
He later provided an update:
“The family of the doctor are doing everything possible to make sure they bail their sister from the police net.
But our presence made all their efforts frustrating
Ontop Cares Human Rights Group are on the ground making sure we monitor the process of the investigation until we know the cause of her death.
The hospital doesn’t have any equipment to perform surgery at all. No sterilizer, nothing nothing. We took the policemen who were doing the investigation to the crime scene (hospital) and to the morgue.
We will be performing an autopsy on the victim by tomorrow or next tomorrow to ascertain the cause of her demise. Investigation ongoing
