
The Ogun State Government has suspended Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo, for six months following a viral video allegedly showing him assaulting a 73-year-old chief, Areola Abraham.
The suspension was announced by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Communication and Strategy, after both parties were interrogated by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat.
This action aligns with Section 52(1) of the Obas and Chiefs’ Law of Ogun State 2021.
In the video, Oba Ogunjobi is seen cursing and physically assaulting Chief Abraham, who is kneeling and pleading.
Chief Abraham recounted that the monarch threatened his life, boasting of his influence over the police. He expressed fear for his safety and called on the Nigerian government for protection.
The Nigeria Police Force has interrogated Oba Ogunjobi regarding the incident. They have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that justice will be served.
