Wildfires sweeping across Los Angeles County intensified on Thursday, prompting firefighters to continue battling the fast-spreading blazes fueled by strong Santa Ana winds.

Officials have confirmed that at least two people have died, and dozens of homes have been destroyed. Thousands of residents were evacuated overnight as the flames advanced unpredictably, leaving many communities in urgent need of shelter.

The Palisades Fire, one of the most prominent blazes, remains out of control despite efforts to establish containment lines.

Firefighters are facing severe challenges, including dry conditions and erratic wind patterns. Residents of Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and nearby neighbourhoods have been placed under mandatory evacuation orders, with emergency services working around the clock to prevent further casualties.

As of this morning, crews are being deployed to protect critical infrastructure while aerial tankers continue to drop fire retardants in high-risk zones.

Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency to mobilize additional resources for affected areas. Relief efforts are underway, with evacuation centres set up to accommodate displaced families.
