President Bola Tinubu has dismissed criticisms of the size of his 48-member cabinet.
The president said he had no plan to reduce it.
“I am not prepared to bring down the size of my cabinet,” he said during a media chat at his Bourdillon residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.
He said “efficiency” has been at the core of his selection of ministers.
It would be recalled that in October 2024, President Tinubu reshuffled his cabinet. He reassigned 10 ministers, appointing seven new ones, and dismissing five. Many critics, however, maintained that the cabinet remains bloated.
Many wondered why there was any need to create a Livestock Ministry when there was a Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
The president appointed 48 ministers in August 2023. One minister, Betta Edu, was suspended in January 2024, while Simon Lalong moved into the Senate.
