The Lekki Central Mosque pulled down a banner that generated protest from the Christian community on Wednesday, December 18, but by Thursday morning, another controversial one has been put up.
The first banner that drew the ire of the Christian community was placed at the gate of the Mosque, facing the main road, with the inscription: “Jesus Christ is not God! He is a prophet and messenger of God!”
A Christian saw it and escalated it on social media where it generated a lot of criticism. Many Christians noted that the banner was a direct attack on their faith at a time they are preparing to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
The ensuing controversy led to the removal of the banner on Wednesday. A member of the Lekki Muslim Community, Lekan Alabi, filmed himself at the front of the mosque where the banner was initially hung to show the public that it had been removed.
The place the banner was hung was empty.
However, by Thursday, a new banner has been put there, and the content, yet again is generating angry reactions in some Christians.
The new banner reads: “No diety (sic) is worthy of worship except Allah the Lord of Jesus Christ, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Muhammed, & all prophets”.
