An aide to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Uduak Udoh, has come under fire for an embarrassing blunder made during the funeral of Akwa Ibom State First Lady, Patience Umo Eno, held last Friday.
While addressing journalists at the solemn event, Udoh made the startling statement of “congratulating” Governor Umo Eno over his wife’s passing.
In his remarks, Udoh stated, “Let me first of all congratulate His Excellency, the governor of the state, over the demise of his dear lovely wife. I want to wish all of us a very happy state today. May God bless you. Thank you.”
The comment has sparked widespread outrage and ridicule across the nation, with many questioning the competence of individuals occupying key positions in government.
Reacting to the controversy, media personality Reuben Abati criticized Udoh’s remarks as a reflection of poor leadership standards in Nigeria.
He said, “A man has lost his wife, and at the funeral, you say you congratulate him. What kind of characters are these? These are the kinds of leaders that will one day embarrass Nigerians on the international stage by speaking without thought.”
The video of the incident has since gone viral, drawing significant public attention and criticism.
