Megastar, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has alleged that there is a plan to stop his Lagos concert following his negative remarks about Nigeria’s economy during an interview on The Big Homies House podcast.

During the podcast, Davido advised Nigerians in America not to return home now, citing poor governance, a plummeting exchange rate, and surging oil prices.

“It is not cool back home. The economy is in a shambles,” he stated.

Davido elaborated, highlighting issues like the country’s high oil prices despite being an oil producer.

Davido clarified his stance as both an entertainer and a representative of Nigeria, saying, “I do my part. I am an ambassador. When I go home and I am filming, I am not going to show the bad parts.”

His comments drew criticism, particularly from TVC presenter Akashat Ny’mat, who argued that such remarks on an international platform could discourage potential investors.

She stated, “When the President seeks foreign investors and a figure like Davido says this, it’s essentially telling them not to come.”

Unbothered by the backlash, Davido defended himself on X (formerly Twitter), calling himself a “real ambassador” of Nigeria and mocking critics.

Addressing rumours of potential show cancellations, he added, “Dem say dem go cancel my show … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria.”

Davido was shot into stardom with his hit Dami Duro in 2012. He has since remained a key figure in African music.
