Orders immediate suspension of revenue collection in Edo State
Twenty-four hours after taking office, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has initiated sweeping changes in the state public service.
On Wednesday, Okpebholo ordered the immediate dissolution of all executives of boards, agencies, and parastatals across Edo State.
The dissolution impacts permanent secretaries who were appointed from outside the state civil service.
In his directive, Okpebholo also instructed all contractors in the state to return to their respective sites, mandating the immediate repair of damaged roads within the Benin metropolitan area.
In addition, the governor announced an indefinite suspension of all revenue collection activities in the state, particularly within motor parks.
According to a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, all affected officials are to hand over government assets in their possession to senior public officers within their agencies.
The governor stated, “The collection of revenue is suspended until further notice. Anyone seen collecting revenue on behalf of the state government will face arrest.”
He instructed the Commissioner of Police to ensure strict enforcement of this order.
During a tour of Benin City, Governor Okpebholo reiterated his commitment to infrastructural development, beginning with road repairs.
He assured citizens that his administration would move swiftly to deliver on its promises, focusing immediately on road projects in the capital, including Temboga Road and Ramat Park/Slope Axis, and other crucial areas in the state.
