The head of the Lagbaja family in Ilobu, Osun State, Mr. Demola Lagbaja, has expressed deep regret over the passing of Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the late Chief of Army Staff, lamenting that the late soldier dedicated his life entirely to military service and missed the chance to enjoy life outside it.
Mr. Lagbaja said this during a condolence visit from the Old Boys Association of St. Charles Grammar School, Osogbo, at the family residence in Ibadan.
He reflected on the family’s hopes that their late son would have had a fulfilling retirement.
“We expected him to enjoy the fruits of his labour,” he said, adding, “Some tears will never dry.”
He acknowledged the family’s acceptance of fate but took pride in the achievements of their son, who, after completing his A-levels at the Polytechnic, spent his entire career in the military.
“What happened has happened, and we have to submit to the will of God, but he made us proud. All we can wish is for him to rest in peace.”
The head of the family also thanked the association for their visit and the kind words about their late son.
In his tribute, the association’s representative, Mr. Sola Omopo, noted Lagbaja’s dedication to the school, where he was a financial supporter and actively involved in a major N550 million building project, which was nearing completion before his untimely death.
Lt. Gen. Lagbaja passed away on November 5 at the age of 56.
