An explosion rocked Jos, the Plateau State capital, early Tuesday morning, sending shockwaves through the surrounding areas and causing widespread alarm.

The blast reportedly occurred around 10:30 a.m. near the bustling Terminus Market, a densely populated section of the city.

Witnesses on the scene described chaotic scenes in the aftermath.

“I was nearby when I heard a loud bang,” recounted Gyang Buba, a local vendor. “People were running and screaming; it was terrifying.”

Initial reports suggest that several people may have been injured, with unconfirmed accounts indicating possible fatalities.

Emergency response teams, including police, firefighters, and medical personnel, swiftly arrived to provide assistance, while police secured the area to investigate the cause.

Attempts to reach Plateau State Police Command’s spokesman, Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful as his phone was switched off. However, security officials confirmed an investigation is underway.

“We urge calm as we assess the situation to ensure public safety,” a source stated.

The incident has raised heightened security concerns among residents, who have urged authorities to bolster protection in Jos, a city that has faced sporadic unrest in recent years.

Further details will follow as investigations continue.
