A black mother with a white daughter had to get a DNA test to convince herself that the baby is actually hers.
Mom-of-three Alex is married to a white man, Rob and share two other children who are half castes.
When their third baby named Pudge Pudge, arrived via IVF, she was not a half caste, but a white girl.
This surprised the couple who thought there might have been a mix-up since Pudge was got through IVF.
‘I was super surprised,’ Alex told Truly. ‘Her ears weren’t even dark. They were really, really white!’
The couple have since conducted a DNA test to be absolutely certain Pudge, who has now turned 2, is theirs.
Armed with the results, they are now able to confront trolls both in real life and on social media.
Alex said she came across a lot of negativity due to the difference in the skin tones of her children.
Alex recalled that in one situation, she was shopping at the mall with Pudge Pudge when a staffer stopped her saying ‘things didn’t look right’ and threatened to call security on her.
‘Rob ended up handling the whole thing for me and essentially telling her to leave us alone,’ she said.
‘I should be able to hang out with my child the way I want to!’
Alex said that she’s even received criticism from black people, who have attacked her for being in an interracial relationship.
‘I’ve seen people that appear to be black online that say I shouldn’t have that white man’s child, all kinds of things,’ she said.
Alex has also been accused of ‘renting’ Pudge Pudge as a ‘content baby’ for social media.
She says she had to do a DNA test to prove that Pudge was her child.
‘We decided to do the DNA test because she was so white and we did use IVF to get pregnant with her and mistakes do happen,’ she explained.
