The scandal-rocked former Director-General of the National Financial Investigation Agency in Equatorial Guinea, Baltasar Engonga, has been remanded in Malabo’s Black Beach Prison.

The high-flying finance chief who was in charge of the country’s anti-graft body was being investigated for alleged fraud when it was discovered that he had allegedly recorded over 400 s*x tapes involving the wives of prominent figures in the country.

Some of the people seen in the videos containing his s*xcapades included the sister and daughter of the president of Equatorial Guinea,, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, the Attorney General’s wife, his brother’s wife and the wife of the Inspector General of Police, among others.

Engonga, son of Baltasar Engonga Edjo’o, the head of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) commission and a nephew of the sitting president of Equatorial Guinea.

His uncle, the president, dismissed him last week, citing Decree No. 118/2024.

Dated 4th November, the dismissal letter said Engonga was fired due to “irregularities committed in the exercise of his functions, as well as inappropriate family and social conduct for the performance of public duties.”

A video of his appearance in court, which emerged on social media on Friday, Nov. 8, showed his legs being shackled before being led out of court into a waiting vehicle.

Confirming the situation, French online blog Afrikmatin reported that Engonga, who was officially removed from his role on November 6, 2024, was subsequently chained and transferred to Malabo Central Prison. He faces charges of corruption and embezzlement.
