Man shares throwback picture he took with late Lt. Gen. Lagbaja as NYSC platoon commandant

Describes him as a good man

A man has paid a glowing tribute to the late Chief of Army Staff,  Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, even as he shared a picture he took with him when he was his Platoon Commander during his NYSC in the late 90s.

The man identified as Kayode Okikiolu took to X to share this following the recent announcement of the passing of the gentleman soldier.

In the photo he shared, he was standing side by side with the late military man and was holding his hand.

He wrote:

“About Lt. Gen. Lagbaja:

“He was my Platoon Commandant ages ago, during my NYSC.

He was a disciplinarian, yet very friendly and helpful.

His stern looks (which had been since then), does not really tell you his heart. He would sit and discuss, encourage, etc.

We all loved him back then. I couldn’t have held an officer’s hands like that.”

@olorogunErnest asked: “You did your NYSC 1997/1998? Your tweet is very confusing as it means you served about 26 years ago? Are you saying you’re approaching 50yo?”

With your Teju baby face I dey look you like small boy.”

@Yhakike said: “God rest his soul.

First time I heard about him was when he was GOC 1Div. He reportedly led his troops to the bushes himself. Rode on motorbike and gave bandits along the Kaduna-Abuja road a run for their madness. And he won. Speaks of his leadership. Rest in Peace, General. 👮‍♂️”
