‘I began warehouse job and my legs are swollen. How do you people cope?’ Nigerian in UK asked compatriots
A Nigerian man, Ogunlola, based in the United Kingdom (UK) has taken to the Nigerian in the UK platform on X (Twitter) to seek advice on how to survive a new job he found that required standing.
According to him, he just started the job on Friday, and ended up doing back-to-back- shifts till Tuesday and discovered that his legs were swollen.
Hear him: “I started a warehouse job on Friday, did back-to-back till today. My legs are swollen now, each day I go I take 1500 mg of hydroxurea just to survive the shift which is high but recommended. I wonder how others are coping because we need to support each other”.
From earlier posts, Ogunlola is a Sickle Hemoglobin-C Disease (SC) sufferer, but by his own account, he has so far lived largely free of any health crises.
Some of his compatriots have been offering their pieces of advice.
Alex Oburoh wrote: “I understand your situation. Been there before. I’d just advise however; watch your food intake (eat very healthy and avoid too much oily food); shower after every shift and make sure you sleep at least 6 hours. Pray hard also and have faith. It is well”
Responding, @ogunlola23 wrote: “I do shower hot water after getting home but that sleep is what is even triggering the crises, I sleep 3 or 4 hours now so it compounds the stress.”
@semasir: “Dunno how best to console you than what many have said…
On this matter for factory, I don spend like 365 days and 1st week of back-to-back was “to God be the glory”.
@vickydime: “When u get home first from ur shift… put d both legs in very cold water for about 5- 10mins..not more than dt, d water cud be below knee level
Do the same after ur bathe in the morning too before you put on your safety boots
You’d be perfect for d day with just paracetamol”
@TWEETSBYOLORI: “Cold water ke. He can’t ooo because of his crises”
@vickydime: “Yea.. I just noticed he spoke about the crises this morning… Bless him”
