The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed holding convicted cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.
Activist, VeryDarkMan, had on Monday morning announced that Bobrisky was arrested at the Seme Border while attempting to flee the country.
Efforts to confirm this failed as the spokesperson of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) DCI Kenneth Udo was not reachable for the entire day.
The NIS has now provided clarity on the situation, detailing the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
Udo confirmed that Bobrisky was arrested on Monday at the Seme Border while attempting to flee the country because he was considered a “person of interest.”
He said the NIS had been monitoring Okuneye’s activities due to his legal troubles.
“In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, Nigeria Immigration Service NIS intercepted Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju otherwise known as Bobrisky at the Seme Border over an attempt to Exit the Country.
“The Service wishes to inform the public that Okuneye Idris is a person of interest over recent issues of public concern. He is undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate Authorities for further action.
“The Service assures the public that it will continue to be civil and professional in its statutory responsibility of manning the Country’s Borders” Udo said in the statement.
