A Nigerian man, Joe Aito, has taken to social media to hail the Chinese police following his experience in the country.
He narrated how he left the airport and got into a taxi that happened to have been an “illegal” one and the taxi driver overcharged him.
When he got to his hotel and mentioned how much he paid the taxi driver, he said the hotel receptionist was shocked and immediately called the police.
He explained that he was scared at first, considering what he had heard about China.
However, when the Chinese police arrived, they traced the taxi driver and made him refund about 80% of the money he charged.
The Nigerian man added that he had never been to a country where the police would be attentive to such trivial complaints.
He ended up rating China 100 and the rest of the world zero.
He wrote on his Facebook page:
“I’m in China for a conference and something impressive happened. 11 hours flight, touched down, got into a ‘taxi’…
“Wait for it. lol…
“Apparently it was an illegal taxi. Took a pic of the plate number and the driver said I had to delete it that it’s illegal. I did, knowing fully well how easy it was to retrieve.
“Dropped off at the hotel and the taxi bill was pretty high. Too tired to argue + Was tired of using Google translate, I paid.
“Casually mentioned the taxi bill to the hotel receptionist hours later and they were gobsmacked. Hour later, I get a call that the police is here for me. They had called the police to report the situation and I had to go with the Police to the station.
“On my First day here oh. The Nigerian in me was thinking plenty things. Plus all I had heard about China eh.
“Anyway, 45 minutes after getting to the police station, the taxi driver showed up and refunded over 80% of what he charged. Walked 5 minutes back to my hotel feeling more assured and at peace. I don’t think I’ve been to any other country where the Police will give an ear to complaints about being ripped off by a taxi driver.
“China: 100. Rest of the world: 0”
