Nigerians have taken to X to comment on the ordeal of the national football team, Super Eagles in Libya, saying it payback for the treatment given to the Libyan team when they played the first leg in Nigeria.
It would be recalled that the Super Eagles travelled to Libya on Sunday, October 13, and the plane was supposed to take them to Benghazi.
However, their flight was diverted to Al Abraq airport, which is two hours away from their destination.
The Nigerian players and their agents were kept inside the airport’s arrival hall for several hours and were not allowed to leave.
Several Super Eagles players took to X to complain that they had been in the airport in Libya for over 13 hours without food.
Some Nigerians have now said that the whole experience is a retaliation by Libya for what Nigeria did to their own team.
They unearthed tweets from Libya complaining about how poorly their national team was treated and how they would retaliate on the second leg of the match.
Some of the tweets indicated that the Libyan team was delayed at the airport for five hours and then conveyed in a bus without air conditioners to Uyo where they played the match.
Many Nigerians wondered why they did not land them in Uyo Airport directly for their match there, but put them through a bus trip to Uyo from Port Harcourt, a road that is said to be poor.
