The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of Shedrack Olawale Olayemi, a 33-year-old man wanted for armed robbery and alleged rape of female students at Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun.

Olayemi was apprehended on Monday by the Igbeba Division in Ijebu-Ode following a tip-off about his presence in the university area, where he attempted to hide his identity.

Police spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola confirmed that Olayemi was a prime suspect in a violent incident that occurred on July 21, 2024.

During this incident, he and his accomplices broke into the Royal Villa accommodation for female students, stealing valuable items such as laptops, iPhones, and wristwatches, and allegedly assaulting one of the students.

A preliminary investigation is underway, and Olayemi has been taken to the Igbeba Police Station for interrogation.

He is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

State Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha, has instructed that efforts continue to apprehend Olayemi’s accomplices and has urged the Ijagun community to provide information to help track down remaining members of the criminal gang.
